If your premises licence authorises the sale of alcohol, it is a legal requirement to have a Designated Premises Supervisor (DPS) named on it. The DPS is responsible for the day-to-day management of alcohol sales and must hold a personal licence. Typically, the DPS is the business owner or an individual in a managerial role, although this is not always the case.

Without a DPS named on the premises licence, a business is prohibited from selling alcohol. Any changes to the DPS must be addressed promptly to avoid any disruption to the business.

If you are appointed as a DPS, or if you are managing a change of DPS at your premises, it is necessary to apply for a variation of the premises licence to include the new appointee. This application should be submitted before the change takes effect, although it can be made for immediate implementation.
